Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory (MRAO) is home to a number of large radio telescopes. Created in the mid 1940s on the outskirts of Cambridge, England, to study celestial objects by means of the natural radio waves they emit. The work of the MRAO was recognised by the award of the 1974 Nobel Prize for physics to Professor Ryle and Professor Hewish.
